The Perfect Fit Every Time

Bespoke Wedding Dress

About Me

After completing a BA Hons degree in Costume Interpretation at The Wimbledon School of Art, I then went on to work for various Theatre and Costume Companies, gaining valuable experience in the cutting and making historical and modern dress. I have worked for The Globe Theatre London, The Royal Opera House, London and Sydney, Grease the Musical and The Spice Girls first tour, to name but a few.

Having created costume and bridal wear for many years, I still have immense joy in the process of making a dress which reflects personality, individual style and with an immaculate finish and fit.

Now based in a studio in Chislehurst, Kent providing wedding dress services to the Kent and London Area.

Having a Bespoke Dress Made

After a discussion on the telephone or via email an appointment is made which is free of charge. During the first meeting we discuss ideas, styles and shapes. We will talk about what styles you like to wear and look at shapes to suit you, such as a a column dress, A line, trumpet, mermaid, ball gown or sheath dress. I have a large range of fabric samples from reputable UK stockists, including duchesse satin, silk crepe, dupion silk, zibeline, georgettes, chiffons and many more, natural or man-made, embellished fabrics and a huge variety of laces. If we cannot find a suitable fabric then I will look further afield or we will have a shopping day in London which will incur a small charge We may measure at this stage depending when the wedding is. An approximate price has usually been given before this meeting which is then finalised after the first appointment when more detail has been established. The cost will be the making charge without fabric, but I will give you an estimated price of how much the fabric may cost

I will draw a sketch of what has been discussed and send the cost to make the dress. A deposit is then arranged and a payment plan, leading up to the delivery day, along with a fitting schedule. I will then use your measurements to draft a pattern for the dress, this will be a personal pattern for you, relating to what we have discussed. The dress will then be made in calico or a fabric similar to the final dress, this is called a ‘toile’. This is a chance for me to check the fit and to discuss the design of the dress and make any necessary changes. I will then make changes to the pattern and cut in the final fabric

The dress will be made with care and attention to detail, your dress will be in good hands, each stage is thought through carefully and with experience. The dress may take 4 fittings or it may take 6, each dress is different and unique to you, the bride is involved with each process and is kept well informed of the progress. There is plenty of time to ask questions during or in between fittings. I encourage the bride to bring along a friend or family member to help with decisions and share their experience.

Once the dress has been made we can add the embellishments and final details. Edgings, buttons and loops, diamanté, pearls, skirt decoration, waist finishes, a chance to add some detail and wow factor to your dress. Brides enjoy the experience of having a dress made and having more choice in what they want, which is not always available off the peg. Colour and personality can be reflected in your dress which is unique to you. This is a lovely journey from beginning to end and one which you will have a lot of involvement in and regular up dates.
